WHAT IS A DOMAIN?

The Bias Checklist contains 13—soon to be 14—content domains and two pedagogy domains.

CONTENT DOMAINS

These refer to patient and population groups or characteristics for which inequities in healthcare are well-established. For many of these domains, there is also significant evidence describing the ways in which health professions education perpetuates specific biases. Each content domain has a “101” page with more information (including: key terms, how bias in the domain manifests in healthcare, how bias in the domain affects health professions education, what the Checklist asks about, examples of curricular change, external resources, and contact information expert consultants). The content domains are:

PEDAGOGY DOMAINS

Two pedagogical approaches require additional thought to identify the distinct ways bias can manifest. The pedagogy domains are:

  • Clinical vignettes and cases

  • Visual images

While you can find information specific to vignettes, cases and images above under the relevant content domains, we also suggest checking out Moving Beyond the Checklist for additional support.
